Virtual Supervision Project
It all started when my department sent me for a three-day Learner Autonomy Coach Workshop in UITM, Shah Alam Malaysia end of 2008. There, Prof. Gary Confessori has introduced to me and other participants the usage of Skype as a communication alternative. At that point, I immediately saw it as a very useful supervision tool for distant learners, especially our graduate students. It saves the time to travel..its free...smooth etc...and most important of all, it helps them to get hold of my busy colleagues:))!
Well, brought the idea back to the department management. Idea accepted...and from that moment onwards..i have been keeping the ball rolling for the virtual supervision project. ::Had certain ups and downs in making it a success, but Angie..my new friend from UITM, Machang Kelantan kept on encouraging me in this pursuit...Thanks Angie :).
The video conference assignments with my DCE 3001 students 5 nights in a week helped me in getting their feedback and opinion on the convenience of online meetings as well.
By this April, everything should be ready....May it be a success..
Virtual Supervision Workshop on May 27th 2009
The faculty management wanted us to conduct a virtual supervision pilot project.
Alhamdulillah, the workshop was attended by some of my supportuve colleagues. A detailed preparation was made prior to the workshop.Everything was running very smooth, especially when everyone in the Virtual Supervision Secretariat exhibited their high team spirit. Their commitment towards this project amazed me. Kak Long, Ashraff, Cik Puteri, Ksk Nor, Dr. Lateef, Ahmad, Encik Othman.....all of them. Even Zopfan, our practical student worked extra mile for this project.
My prayer was answered when everythinh went as planned (even though the workshop finished earlier than scheduled). The participants had a fourty minutes interactive session with Prof Gary who is in Washington, U.S.A (thru SKYPE, of course), before they started on the hands on of the virtual supervision tool.
The hands on session turned out to be tremendously fun and exciting! We had fun. Very positive evaluations were given by the participants towards the end of the program. Leading the project and being the main facilitator on that day (of course, with the help of others from the team)...it boosted up my motivation to ensure the success of the whole project. May Allah allow us to be the pioneer of the virtual supervision in UPM.
